Reality Bites

Remember 1994? Winona Ryder when she was known for her acting? This girl looks like she walked out of a central casting audition for Reality Bites, the iconic grunge era movie –complete with the requisite plaid shirt wrapped around her waist. I do like that she is wearing platform heel booties instead of Doc Martens. (which of course are  coming back now as well!)

Over the tunnel and through the bridge...

IMG_0240
Okay, I don't know where these two are from but if I went with a stereotype I'd say beyond the outer boros...my narrative is she's the aspiring Fly Girl from New Jersey or Ronkonkoma and he's her supportive slightly cooler sidekick. Oh. And it's 1991! And their best friend is Rosie Perez. And yes, I am making all this up having OD'ed on sugary holiday treats -but that's part of the fun of people watching. So what do you think their story is?

Punk In Pink

prettyinpink
Pink hair isn't seen as much as it used to be, but I still love seeing it. It's like coming across an old box of My Little Ponies...reminding you of childhood yet slightly twisted. I wonder if this girl always wears pink as well? Or if she changes the color of her clothing and hair simultaneously? Either way it's nice to get a reprieve from black! And her own styling with the biker boots, electric yellow bag and...wristband up the arm(?) keep it as quirky as it is cute.

Isn't she pretty in black

grungeGirl2-copy
Sometimes I look at a photo and am on cultural reference overload. My head goes short hair, black Ray Bans - friend of Molly Ringwald in the eighties. But wearing black and a skirt with black boots is more Reality Bites and the nineties. And he's pure Partridge Family seventies...but I love these two...hence the post...but I am beginning to wonder how we'll look back and define the...zero decade? And recycling other looks is not the answer.
