The pink and the blonde

pinkGoldblonde
Okay, I'm on this total pink and gold kick right now. Or correction: I realize how much of it I'm seeing. Love the tulle over the skirt and the black leather cuffs on the wrists. I just wonder what she'd look like with an edgier haircut...

My Fashion Week Thoughts

Mostly people write about the shows and I'll be doing that as well but here are a few other observations on the week.
1. Despite the prevalence of black, neon is coming back. Particularly hot pink and acid yellow/green.

Here are 3 looks from the parties and as we all know, fashion gets its cues from the street.

From the runway at the Richie Rich show. The clothes are black and white but neon was in the styling.

2. Shaved sides are big. So get out your razor already!

See what I'm talking about?

Again at the Christian Siriano show.

3. Children ran rampant this fashion week.

So fashionable, so precious, so annoying. Did you hear about the 5 year old blogger? The fashion world is showing their insecurity by pandering to children and frankly it's ridiculous. Me, I am not overly fond of children. Period. And unless they have a paycheck and the stature for the clothes I fail to see why they are everywhere. Shoo! shoo! little people!

4. It doesn't matter how bad your clothes are if you can get Pamela Anderson on your runway.
pamAnderson
After an interminable wait (to the point that the photographers in the pit started booing) and ultimate disorganization the Richie Rich show finally began. And overall it was a joke. However when I Googled his show the next day to see if others agreed with me all that came up was Pam, Pam, Pam. So if nothing else I have to give this former club kid props for knowing what to show to get the press...and it has nothing to do with clothes.

Because The Blonds-and their friends- have more Fun!

blonds2
Last night I was one of the fortunate few who was able to attend The Blonds show. If you're not familiar with them (shame on you! ;)) Phillipe and David Blond have created some of the looks worn by the likes of Britney Spears and Rihanna in performance. They are determinedly over-the-top in their aesthetic and, while I'm as much a fan of deconstructed black as the next New Yorker, their colorful edgy glamour mixed with a good dose of humor (love this "lion" coat)has brought a much needed relief from the earnest seriousness elsewhere.

This dress and the spiky multiple rings are great examples of their combination this season of sexiness with a dangerous quality. I will definitely be adding more photos from the show but wanted to give you a preview today.

And with these designers you can expect a theatrical crowd. Along with some of my nightlife favorites that you've seen on Style Defined such as Malik so Chic and Jordan Fox there was J. Alexander (aka "Miss J" by ANTM fans) playing around with a gorgeous friend. The lace detailing on her dress is divine.

And I love the multi-colored polish and jems on his fingers...his own rainbow in the palm of his hand.

I ♥ Katie Gallagher

kg2
I just came from the Katie Gallagher show and, along with the Park Choon Moo show this has been one of my favorites so far. The models were little "mini-me's" of Katie in terms of hair and make up and the clothes were her signature mix of textures and layers that are also very body conscious. I'll be doing a longer review with more photos soon but wanted to post one now.

2 in the Tents

tent2
The tents always attract those who are a bit more unique in their dress: case in point is stylist Shail Upadhya wearing a jacket with a Miro print and pants with a Klee print. A refreshing bit of color.

This woman stays on trend in black, black and more black but adds a headpiece that is attention getting and Lady Gaga worthy.

Fashion Week so Far

fashweek2
I had this plan to write my thoughts on fashion week so far but the truth of the matter is I don't have time at the moment so it will have to wait! Yesterday I went to 3 shows at the tent followed by the amazing Seven party at the Tribeca Grand. The shows were okay and the party was great. Really looking forward to shows today: AAU which is often overlooked but which consistently has some exciting looks, Park Choon Moo - from Seoul Korea, and Sinister's debut collection - a couple of kids from the Midwest who somehow have managed to be showing downtown during fashion week. So a bit more of the emerging markets and less of the blue chip today...and of course a party afterwards.
