Fashion designers vouch for viscose fabrics

To promote consumption and to propagate the inherent qualities of viscose yarn, the Association of Man-Made Fibre Industry in India (AMFII) organised a day long event - ‘Viscose Connect 2011’ in Surat, which concluded with a dazzling fashion show, presented by top-notch Fashion designers of India.

The morning session included interactions between the top officials of the three viscose filament yarn Manufacturer; Century Rayon, Kesoram Rayon and Indian Rayon and those from across the textile value-chain in Surat, which included weavers and embroiders.

These round-table deliberations were meant to inform the Surat textile value-chain about the properties of fabrics made from viscose filament yarn like very good water absorbency and eco-friendliness. They were also informed that, an array of woven fabric like crepe, georgette, satin, velvet and taffeta are manufactured using VFY, thus providing a complete fabric solution.

They were further told that, unlike most man-made fibres, rayon is not synthetic. It is made from wood pulp, a cellulosic based raw material which is naturally-occurring, bio-degradable and is a renewable resource. It is eco-friendly & similar to those of natural cellulosic fibres, such as cotton or linen, than those of other man-made fibres such as nylon or polyester

This was followed by the main event which began in the late evening in which around 300 of the who’s who from the Surat textile sector were invited. The welcome address was given by Vice-President of AMFII and also President of Century Rayon Ltd, Mr Chitlange.

He welcomed the audience by saying that this event has been first organised in Surat due to the fact that, the association of viscose yarn with Surat goes back to the late 50’s and early 60’s, as it was the first city to adopt and consume viscose filament yarn whole-heartedly. Consumption of polyester, silk and nylon followed later.

He added by saying’ “Our objective was to inform the textile value-chain in Surat about the unique properties of viscose like luster which is equivalent to silk, but is also absorbent like cotton. Fabrics made from viscose filament yarn are eco-friendly and skin-friendly. Considering the growing disposable incomes of the Indian consumer, we anticipate high demand for viscose fabrics in the near future”.

ecoGear introduces ecofriendly yoga clothing!

Incredible ecoGear Inc., the Toronto based brand best known for its ecofriendly clothing, Organic Clothing  made from recycled cotton fibres, recently introduced a new line of clothing geared specifically towards the yogini.

Calling it a natural fit, the company hopes to appeal to the yogini's love for nature and the environment through its yoga collection. Since it entered the eco clothing market 3 years ago, the company has made some great strides in its growth despite fierce competition from what it calls vaguely green products. Due to the high standards that the company sets for every product carried under the ecoGear banner, it is now the featured eco brand for Sears online sales, which carries an equally tough standard for eco labelling.

ecoGear's main fibre is made from recycled fibres which is composed of 65% cotton clippings from clothing factories and 35% poly yarns from recycled plastic bottles or rePET. Backed up by a comparison study commissioned by the company's yarn suppliers, ecoGear claims to be the most earthfriendly clothing as the fibres are 100% recycled and for the most part, do not call for bleaching or dyeing, two processes in making fabric that have been well documented as the cause for severe water pollution world wide.

The colors for ecoGear's fabrics and yarn Dyed Fabric are derived from the cotton clippings which the yarn maker has separated into colored lots and are carefully mixed and blended in an effort to achieve 95% consistency in color from one production lot to the next.
