Seen @ Haiti Fundraiser at Santos

haitiGirl
On Tuesday night I stopped by "Bruised but not Broken: A declaration of independence" which was a benefit fashion show. The guests dressed as well as the clothes on the runway. I thought this girl was particularly adorable and she was sporting a hairbow: something that Lady Gaga has perhaps brought back...or someone has since I haven't seen so many around since the early Madonna days.

the face as the new accessory

BirdyDots

Last night I stopped by the Hudson Hotel to take photos of some of my favorite club kids for an upcoming video. This is Jackie Birdy and I adore how she has added dots to her face to match her dress. Super crazy and creative.

Trend alert: the return of big hair

_DSC0029-Edit-copy
It's been a long time coming, but I predict big hair is coming back with a vengeance after a decade of the flat iron. Since my hair is naturally stick straight it won't be anything you'll see on me but it will be interesting to see if I'm right and if so what permutations it will take: Hairband hair? Spiral Perms? Afros?

Retro Diva

_DSC0036-Edit-copy
Going against the miniskirt or short-short trend this girl looks gorgeous in a below the knee cocktail dress kept current with the leopard print accents in the boots and clutch. My favorite thing about her look though is her almost 40s style curls and vivid red lips. Beautiful!

pretty women

IMG_0250-copy
The girl on the left was also in an earlier photo but I loved the whole "Pretty Woman" twins project going on. The thigh high stockings are a cheaper alternative to the boots that were all over the runways for fall 2009. It will be interesting to see if they're still around at the upcoming fall 2010 runway shows. 2010! Crazy! But I am more than ready for a new year.

talking textures

IMG_0233
So it is beyond clear that tights with denim shorts is the equivalent of a black miniskirt this winter...I'm torn between thinking it's cute and thinking it's too retro. But winter trends are hard and pants just aren't that popular right now and leggings can be a bit sketchy for most women unless they are really really thin. So I see the appeal even though it's not a look I would personally wear. I do love the mix of textures -her tights, furry jacket/sweater and oversized scarf -as well as the headphones. The glasses are a bit too Palinesque for me. I'd say "E+ for effort."

girls night out

IMG_0254-copy
The high waisted pants, the off-shoulder shirt, the shorter hair...it's all feeling a bit 80s -kind of the new wave variety...not sure how to categorize...what do you think?

Outside the tents Day 1

fwday1
A new take on a suit: a one piece that's a vest and pleated shorts worn with a cropped jacket. One way to mix casual with formal.

A Simple Shift

A graphic black and white silk shift is simplicity at its best.

Work it like a Supermodel

When we asked this lovely lass if we could take her photo she kindly obliged and started striking poses like a pro. Unfortunately she won't meet any height requirement. But we still loved the simplicity of her outfit and her great Toki Doki bag.

A precursor to a grunge revival?

White floral print is not normally associated with grunge but this look (which I love) totally reminded me of 1993 - babydoll dresses with black tights and (then) Doc Martens. She adds a twist with the thigh highs...

More Cupcakes and Bows

Designer Kristen May Anastasia with friends at her party/trunk show.

What's sexier than high waists and short skirts? Loving how Pat Fields re-invents the eighties with her ode to Sprouse.

A party at SHOP for the Girlie-Girls

Kerin, designer behind A-Morir modeling her glasses made famous by clients like Katy Perry.

The girls looked as sweet as the cupcakes that were served at this party that showcased Angel Lust hair accessories.

Alexandra Alexis, recording star turns it out at ONO

The lovely Miss Alexandra Alexis shared one of her styling tips with us: buy a crinoline and wear under a casual dress to make it party perfect. How utterly quaint yet perfect for the recesh. Thanks Alexandra!

Birdy as a b-girl!

Anyone who regularly attends Vandam is familiar with Miss Jackie Birdy Lasdon. She and Matthew Herra C are routinely walking works of art. So we were utterly surprised to see her at the club in jeans. (she has her reasons, people!) Yet true to form she kicks it up a notch with acid colors on her eyes and everywhere else. Birdy you are our favorite homegirl!

Spring in the City

We ran into Sonia again on her bicycle in Prospect Park. Love a girl who wears a swimsuit from the 50s as everyday wear. We did a little interview with her that will be posted soon!

NYC Street Style

Isabella Amstrup, designer and fine artist also at Parson's and the creator of Angeli's tights looks fantastic as well. Love the LBD dressed down with the deconstructed army green canvas jacket and buckled boots.

Cute and Colorful

Parson's student Angeli wearing white eyelet shorts with one-of-a-kind tights and top -both created by friend and fellow Parson's student Isabella...I suppose that's a fringe benefit of going to a school with fashion designers - not only can you borrow your friend's clothes they can be custom made for you.
