Seeing Hearts

Normally I'm not a fan of hearts as a print on anyone over the age of 10. But the black and silver color combination keeps it from being too cute and I like the way she styled it with a sheer black shirt and belted at the waist...

Color Coordinated

Rosson Crow is one artist with great fashion sense. I saw her all over NYC during fashion week and each time her ensemble completely caught my eye and imagination. ...I doubt it was planned, (tho' you never know) but I love how she's decked out in something that could be seen on a superhero and he has on the batman t-shirt. Also her eyeshadow matches his t-shirt. How brilliantly unexpected is that? So you tell me: was this planned or mere coincidence?

Fashion Week: Day 4

This morning I went to the brilliant Timo Weiland show. (This is Timo backstage with models) and then skipped out to go to the Chictopia 10 conference. Took a break at home and am headed out to a post-party...

This girl keeps it super simple yet cool in black. Taylor Momsen could learn a thing or two from her.



And this fabulous creature is Sergio Wonder. How much do we love his hair? And take note of the length of the pants...this is definitely on trend.

Red Hot

I have always been partial towards redheads. I even wanted –briefly– to be a redhead myself, and dyed my already bleached blonde hair. As you might expect I didn't become a redhead...not even a punky/anime/suicidegrrl pink. No, after the initial day my hair turned to a bland sort of salmon color. NOT a good look. Not even if Kate Moss or Tavi did it. (although either of them would start a major trend naturellement.) This girl is gorgeous and I love her oversized denim vest over the lbd. It has a total "borrowed from my boyfriend" vibe. And the necklace? It says awesome. I couldn't agree more.

More black lace

Okay if you visit Style Defined NYC often - or recently - you may have noticed that I have been talking about the black lace trend: the good, the bad and the ugly! For some reason this top works for me / has less of a white trash vibe than other versions. I do think she could do a bit better with accessorizing. The belt and the shoes don't do anything for her outfit. His shoes (and hair) on the other hand: AMAZING -also love the cut of his Tuxedo jacket

How to make basic black a bit more interesting? By taking a simple cotton frock and sexing it up with thigh high stockings and fuschia lips. This girl knows exactly how to be innocent...

New glasses by Selima @ EVA Boutique

I used to live in Soho. Way, way back in the day - and hands down my favorite shop was the Selima Optique on Wooster Street. Now that Soho has become an upscale mall (it's newest resident a Croc store!) I avoid it like the plague. So I was thrilled that Selima Salaun opened a shop within EVA, a fantastic boutique on the Bowery that carries some of my favorite local designers like Katie Gallagher and The Twentyten. This photo is Stephanie Pappas, the founder of EVA, wearing the ZIA sunglasses that Selima made specifically for EVA New York. I love the old school drama of these glasses. I also love Stephanie's leggings? Tights? They seem like leggings because they don't have feet but they have the sheerness of hosiery...and for some reason I find this utterly intriguing!

How to wear a dress with jeans and not look like a hippie 101

Okay, so that's an absurdly long post title...but, it is what it is. Anyways, remember a few summers ago when dresses over jeans was really popular in that Cali/surfer girl kind of way? Usually worn with flip flops and sometimes looked okay but other times was just a bad idea depending on the combination? Well the way gallerist Elizabeth here is wearing it, it totally works and doesn't look out of place in an art gallery in New York. And here's why: the dress is really simple and the jeans are tight enough to almost be leggings. (I won't say "jeggings". I think that's a really retarded word) I also love how she has the jeans unzipped over her shoes. A good solution for those of us who are vertically challenged. (aka short)

And can I also talk just a moment about the hair? I love super short hair on women. In fact any hair that isn't shoulder length or longer. Okay, I don't hate long hair and my hair used to be super long for years it's just so...safe and predictable. I'm excited to see some of the punk influence popping up in hair but I'd love to see a bit more variety out there

Seen @ Haiti Fundraiser at Santos

On Tuesday night I stopped by "Bruised but not Broken: A declaration of independence" which was a benefit fashion show. The guests dressed as well as the clothes on the runway. I thought this girl was particularly adorable and she was sporting a hairbow: something that Lady Gaga has perhaps brought back...or someone has since I haven't seen so many around since the early Madonna days.

Lovely in...latex?

Latex makes me think of rubber gloves and questionable fluids. This girl looks almost demure in a latex dress. It's great on her slender frame and the cut out design looks smart not slutty. I might go for a shorter necklace however...but that's me. Dress designed by the incomparable Jacqueline Marie Couture.

The black and the red

I'll keep posting photos from fashion week that I like. I love the zipper accents on the belt and that all her accents are red.

Once again in black

Black dress with big necklace...2 days in a row? Yeah, well it's a completely different look. This is recording artist Alexandra Alexis and we always see her out and about looking adorable. I don't know yet tomorrow's post, but I promise it will have a little more color in it!

Best Dress

I've seen aligator purses but never a dress. I love the textured nature of this dress and her chunky gold necklace.

The lovely Karmelita

Our friend Karmela dresses to be noticed 24/7 and this night was no exception. Love this black baby doll dress. A perfect mix of naughty and nice...hey Miss K, is it Betsey Johnson?

This woman is the artists muse. And when you meet her it's no surprise: not only is she visually striking she is warm and is someone clearly comfortable in her own skin. Her dress, by Issey Miyake is also noteworthy. I particulary loved the transformative aspect at the end of the sleeves: they are long and cut as though fingers with red accents like polish at the tips. Introducing the twentyten

The other night I was at a party at the Tribeca Grand when I spotted this girl in this amazing dress. She shared with me that it was designed by the twentyten. I then met another girl also wearing a dress by the twentyten. I had never heard of the twentyten but coincidentally earlier in the week had received an invite to a preview of their recent collection. The twentyten is a collaboration of 3 designers: Nina Zilka, Jeff Dodd, and David J. Krause and you can see images from their latest collection as well as read a Q + A with Nina here...nothing I love more then discovering new design talent...

Birds at the Puffin Room

Despite the 7 degree weather, we stopped by the Puffin Room to attend the opening of a group show entitled The Playground. The work was a combination of sophomoric and precious that (while I assume was unintended) seemed not inappropriate for a show that is supposedly an exploration in regard to (the artists) reluctance and personal struggle to the surrendering of their childhood. Luckily there was some creativity in clothing.


If only the artists paid as much attention to detail. We love: the heart monitor tattoo, hot pink fingerless leather gloves, tattered tights, purple tights, and old school shoes and combat boots with bubble skirts.
