We love Betsey Johnson

BetseyJohnson
On Tuesday night The National Arts Club, located in an amazing mansion on Gramery Park, honored Betsey Johnson with a Lifetime Achievement Award. I love how Betsey keeps true to her own style and challenges the concept of "age appropriate." And with so many women (including me) wearing her designs that night she stilllooked like the coolest girl in school. Proving that no imitations can substitute for the real thing.

Interview with Katie Gallagher

We love Katie Gallagher: we think her designs are creative, inspiring and perfectly "of the moment". No 80s references or obvious cliches for this girl. Katie recently showed her latest collection at the Tribeca Grand during fashion week.

Happy belated birthday, Madonna!

madonna
Okay, so we're 4 days late with Madge's B-day. Oh! And we don't have to call her "Madge" anymore because she's moving back to New York F***ing City so no more of these UK pretensions. ANYWAYS. Madonna has been the ultimate in owning her style since her Lucky Star days. Which honestly I loved so much more than Madonna now. Anyone see her recent Louis Vuitton ads? Frankly I think she looks like a well preserved corpse. Oh, Madonna, where art thou?

Andre Leon Talley at the Angelika for Valentino Doc this Sunday!!!

(did that get your attention?)

I know this isn't a normal posting, but I'm so excited about this I wanted to share: the legendary Andre Leon Talley and documentary filmmaker Matt Tyrnauer will once again be doing a Q & A post screenings of Tyrnauer's haute documentary Valentino: The Last Emperor. I saw the film when it was at the Film Forum and was disappointed when I found out I missed a Q & A session there. The film is beyond brilliant and if you haven't seen it then by all means go now! It's still playing around town but the Q & A is happening this Sunday at the Angelika after two different screening times: 5:35 pm and 8:05 pm. ...I just have to decide which one to go to...

The End of Fashion Week...

Fashion week came and went in a blur (like this photo taken at the Ports 1961 show) but we're going to stretch it out longer and bring you photos from those who showed up in style. Here are a few that make fashion week what it is on the sidelines.

Patrick Macdonald: club kid? (so said a paper this week) fashionista? writer? Perhaps simply the most consistently stylish man on the scene. A hardcore devotee of all that is fashion.

Lynn Yaeger: proud eccentric, former fashion writer for the Village Voice covering fashion week for New York Magazine. Check out her personalized Goyard bag. Brilliant.

And the ones who really pay the bills: the loyal customers. These ladies were at the Nicole Miller show. It's the only show they attend which they attend together every season. All dressed in Nicole Miller, naturellement!

I was dissed by Oksana Baiul

So fashion week is almost over and I spent my day at Bryant Park going to shows and photographing people for Style Defined. As you know celebrimees aren't my thing which is why you won't see photos of Paris Hilton at the Pamela Roland show or Tori Spelling making her entrance to Christian Siriano's show. Tonight however I approached a woman in a silver lame jacket with false eyelashes and a blonde updo. A little over the top, I thought, but could be interesting. I asked if I could take her photo and she said "yes" then proceeded to turn around and begin talking to some other people. When I expressed confusion it was explained to me by (presumably) her manager that she was Oksana Baiul "the famous olympic skater" and that I had to wait until she was ready.(he also gave me his card and requested I send him a copy of the picture) ...after about 4 minutes I just said to him "thanks, but no thanks". Whatever happened to simply saying, "No thanks, I'd rather you not?" But considering this was the only rudeness I encountered this week it's not so bad.

Look for more real photos of people who are really fabulous here tomorrow...i need to go to bed!

World Famous *BOB* at Deitch Gallery for Liz Renay Retrospective.

,bWe attended the opening for the Liz Renay Retrospective at the Deitch Gallery. While less than impressed with the artwork, we were thrilled to get this photo of burlesque queen extraordinaire World Famous *BOB* posing with her toy poodle Movie Star alongside a diminutive appearing Jeffrey Deitch. *BOB* is a brilliant example of someone who has fearlessly cultivated her own style.
