Boys in trenches and on trend

Trench coats are big this spring in womens wear and it's nice to see a few boys picking up the trend as well. Seen last night at the Darker Side of Green cocktail/after party, it was refreshing to see boys not in "all black" ensembles. Bravo to all! And see you at my party ;)

As girls are wearing more blazers again and boyish jackets, these boys are taking it up a notch by wearing more formal jackets -satin lined tuxedo and velvet- to dress up more casual looks. Well done!

Interview with Karlo Steel of Atelier New York

New York is full of fashionable people...but wearing fashion and having style are not one and the same. Karlo Steel falls into the latter category of someone who has impeccable style that is uniquely his own. So it's no wonder that he is one of the men behind the downtown boutique Atelier New York. We spoke with Karlo and he also picked out some of his favorite pieces for us which you can see on the Musings page.

Andrew + Andrew take the concept of matching outfits to dizzying new heights. Gimicky? Perhaps. Effective? Absolutely. This downtown dj-ing duo were delightful at the Betsey Johnson Gala. (although I'm not sure why this seems to be brought to you by the letter D today...)

Okay, so we're 4 days late with Madge's B-day. Oh! And we don't have to call her "Madge" anymore because she's moving back to New York F***ing City so no more of these UK pretensions. ANYWAYS. Madonna has been the ultimate in owning her style since her Lucky Star days. Which honestly I loved so much more than Madonna now. Anyone see her recent Louis Vuitton ads? Frankly I think she looks like a well preserved corpse. Oh, Madonna, where art thou?

This is River + Parker. Whenever I go somewhere cool...there they are. I love these boys. And I think they have fierce style.

Channeling Chanel

I don't know what exactly this is that my friend Niko Liakaris is wearing, or more to the point, how this Chanel-in-Chains is supposed to be worn. But I love how he just threw it on over black and let it be the distinctive accent in his look. And this is fashion at its best: taking something iconic and making it your own. Niko, along with Jon Daly, Brandon Bogard & Gabi Richmond are hosting a new party at the Soho Grand on Thursday nights with Lindsay Luv and Jamie Biden spinning tunes. We couldn't keep our eyes off these two at a recent event. So it was no surprise to find that Matt & Enrique here are the owners of the online store Fine and Dandy Shop , described as "accessories for dapper guys". We hope boys everywhere will be duly inspired by their style as well.

We ran into Anthony last night at the OUT Magazine party at the very popular new Ace Hotel (with their Northwestern US theme which I personally find incongruous in NYC). We love the balance of the slightly boxy yet soft jacket over straight jeans. It's an outfit that could be worn in any season and anywhere...but New York's best.

You are so damaged

Okay, maybe you're not. Maybe I'm projecting. OR maybe I'm referring to the trend of ripped jeans and tights. I think this is an international trend born of the recession with a knowing nod to punk and grunge. I love it. I love imperfection. And love that instead of tossing tights with a run I can just add more and make a fashion statement. Perfect, lovely - perfectly lovely.

Blondes have more fun...

So I'm jet lagged and the parties don't start 'til tomorrow so here is a photo taken last weekend. I love his whole look and also that his whole vibe is positive and sans attitude. And maybe it has nothing to do with his having blonde hair...or maybe mother was right that it's like having your own little bit of sunshine with you always...or was she talking about something else altogether?

This boy has amazing eyes and an almost hypnotic gaze...which just about makes up for the baggy shorts paired with a black velvet jacket...oh and did we say we love the hair? We love the hair.
